Description

This is a house, originally built in 1580, and later divided and altered in the mid-18th century and the early 19th century. It was once joined with the adjacent property at No. 6. It is constructed of rendered stone and timber framing, with a central, lateral stack and a tiled roof. The house originally comprised two rooms arranged in parallel, and is now divided into two, with a rear service wing.

The building was originally two storeys with an attic, and now has a three-window front. Features include a plinth, a doorway on the left-hand side with a bracketed canopy that extends over the entrance to No. 6, and a recessed six-pane sash window on the ground floor. There is also a hipped dormer. The rear of the property features a two-storey gabled extension, paired with the extension of No. 6.

Inside, the ground floor has a stone plinth and a timber-frame partition. A large central, rear lateral fireplace incorporates a bread oven. An early 19th-century plaster barrel-vaulted ceiling covers the through passage. There is an inserted 18th-century winder stair to the right of the stack. The rear gabled extension features a dogleg stair with stick balusters and column newels.
