Description
The former aqueduct over Cam Brook, now functioning as a bridge, was built in 1803 for the Somersetshire Canal Company. It was designed by surveyor William Smith, known as "the Father of British Geology," under the supervision of engineer John Rennie, with William Bennet as the engineer. The structure is made of ashlar and features two low segmental arches, channelled pilasters, a moulded projecting cornice, and parapets. An inscribed panel on the north-west side is now illegible. Originally, this aqueduct connected to the Cam/Radstock Branch of the canal, incorporating a basin and an incline leading to the Wellow (south) branch. The aqueduct is currently in poor condition.
