Description

No. 4, Lambridge is a terrace house dating to 1828. It is constructed of limestone ashlar with a double-pitched slate roof, featuring moulded stacks to the left. The house has two storeys and a basement and presents a two-window front. The windows are six/six-pane sashes, with the first-floor windows being tall. A coved cornice tops the building, with a first-floor sill band running along the facade. To the right is a semicircular arch with a fanlight featuring an inverted fan glazing pattern, above a complex two-panel door which incorporates a shaped hexagon at its top. Repositioned metal railings flank the doorway.

The interior is virtually complete. The ground floor features two-panel doors, double doors connecting the ground floor rooms, panelled shutters, and moulded cornices. The cornice in the front room includes a frieze decorated with convolvulus leaves and flowers. The skirting boards are tall and feature lozenge panels, while the reeded architraves have foliate blocks in the upper corners. The fireplaces are fine white marble surrounds with coloured marble insets. The entrance hall has an egg-and-dart cornice and a fine open-well stone staircase with moulded treads, plain wrought iron balusters articulated by finely wrought iron panels, and a mahogany handrail. The basement is said to contain a concealed bread oven.

The house was built by Viner, a former marble mason, for Captain Keegan, and the Keegan family also built Nos. 5 and 6 to the right.
