Description
The raised pavement between Beaufort Place and Lambridge Street is an early 19th-century structure that has been altered in the late 20th century. It consists of three sections that are ramped at each end. The materials used include pennant stone paving and steps, rubblestone revetment walls, and wrought iron railings.
The western section, which faces Beaufort West, is approximately 100 meters long and rises to about 5 meters at the center, featuring two sets of steps leading down to the road. The central section, which fronts Beaufort East, is similar in design but does not have steps. The eastern section, facing Lambridge, is around 150 meters long and 1 meter high at the center. This section includes six projecting platforms with steps, some equipped with handrails, that lead down to the road, which may have originally served as mounting blocks. Near the eastern end, the pavement has late 20th-century ramps leading down to a pedestrian crossing.
