Description

Memorial Hall and Memorial Hall Cottage is a detached building that serves as a village hall and cottage. It likely dates from the late 16th century, with alterations made in the 17th century, early 18th century, and later. The exterior is rendered and features a hipped stone slate roof. The building is two storeys tall, with a lower single storey and attic extension at the west end.

On the north elevation, there are two two-light casement windows—one with chamfered mullions and one with ovolo moulded mullions and surrounds. Additionally, there is a single light window in a moulded wooden surround on the first floor. The west gable end of the lean-to has a casement window in an ovolo moulded surround. The south elevation displays a variety of windows, including a sash window in a raised plain surround with edge roll moulding. There is an off-centre plank door on the north side, along with 20th-century doors in porches at both ends of the south elevation.

Inside, the kitchen of the Hall, located at the east end, is fully panelled with early 18th-century fielded panelling, a moulded dado, and a dentilled cornice. It features a baroque style chimney piece with a depressed ogee head, a fluted keystone, and panelled pilasters. The fireplace is flanked by fluted Ionic pilasters, and the entablatures break forward from the wall cornice. To the left, there is a shell-headed cupboard with fluted pilasters and cut bracket shelves. The kitchen is the only part of the Memorial Hall that is of special interest; the hall itself and other areas are from the 20th century.
