Description

The Manor is a house dated 1667, with a 19th-century addition and 20th-century restoration. It features coursed rubble and squared freestone quoins, stone dressings, copings, and a pantile roof. The building has two storeys and an attic. The original roadside front had a three-bay facade with a central advanced staircase tower, though its symmetry has been altered by the left-hand 19th-century addition. The gabled combined staircase tower and porch has a varied arrangement of windows, including two and three-light ovolo mullions with hoodmoulds and small leaded pane casements, some set under flush relieving arches. Flanking the tower are four-light ovolo mullions on the ground floor, which include a central king mullion, and three-light ovolo mullions on the upper floor. The 19th-century addition is blind. The porch doorway on the left has a basket handle arch with a datestone, hoodmould, and moulded and chamfered jambs. It features a two-leaf 20th-century small leaded pane outer door and an inner 17th-century studded batten plank door with a moulded architrave. There are end stone stacks, and the rear elevation includes some edge-moulded mullions. Inside, there is an inglenook fireplace in the ground floor right-hand room and an original framed newel staircase with alternating circle and parallelogram balusters. The house was built by Alexander Popham of Hunstrete.
