Description
7A Northumberland Buildings is a former house now used as offices, with its entrance located on Barton Street. The building dates from the late 18th century and is constructed of coursed and dressed rubble, topped with a double Roman tile roof.
The exterior features four storeys and a basement, with a two-plus-one window arrangement. All windows are sashes set in plain reveals with flush ashlar dressings. The attic storey has a small four-pane window, while the second floor has a twelve-pane window. The first floor features a large sixteen-pane window in bay two, and bay three at ground level also has a sixteen-pane window, with a pavement grille above a blocked basement light.
To the left of the entrance, there is a six-panel door with sidelights beneath a radial fanlight, set in a deep reveal and accessed by five nosed steps. A small cavetto cornice is present above the second floor, and there is a plain coped parapet. The building has a broad stack to the right and another broad ashlar stack at the rear, where the rubble wall extends to attic height.
To the right, there is a gabled wing made of coursed rubble, featuring two small two-light casements at the attic level above twelve-pane sashes, along with a gable stack. The interior has not been inspected. Historically, this property was likely built as a service wing to Northumberland Buildings and is set back to a short return, covering the steps leading to the doorway.
