Description
No. 2 with railings is an end terrace house, now converted into flats, dating from the late 18th century and converted in the mid-20th century. It is constructed of limestone ashlar, painted at the ground floor, and features a double Roman tile roof. The building has a square plan with the entry and staircase located to the right, under a mansard roof that extends to a coped gable at the rear. It was formerly part of a terrace that continued to the east.
The exterior consists of three storeys, an attic, and a basement, with three windows that are all twelve-pane sashes. These are set above a sill band at the first floor and are framed in splayed surrounds at the ground floor and basement. To the right, there is a six-panel door with a transom light, flanked by reeded pilasters and a transom, approached by three stone steps. The left return faces a car parking area and has two dormers above one twelve-pane sash at each level, with a door that includes sidelights. There are two deep stacks on this side, along with a small cornice featuring a blocking course and a parapet that returns from the front.
The interior, inspected in 1979, includes stairs with a Doric newel and colonnettes, original fireplaces, and alcove cupboards. The basement area is enclosed by simple iron railings on a stone curb, which return at the end and include a doorway.
