Description
This is an end-of-terrace house, dating from the late 18th century, that has been converted for retail use. It was altered in the mid-19th century and has 20th-century additions. The property is constructed of limestone ashlar, with the ground floor painted. It has a double Roman tile roof. The building fronts onto Harington Place, with a narrow splayed return that matches No. 28, Barton Street, and a short front onto Barton Street itself. A hipped mansard roof sits atop the building.
The exterior presents three storeys, an attic, and a basement, with two windows spaced widely apart on the main façade. Above the windows are twelve-pane sash windows in plain reveals, with sunk panels above the second floor. Net balconettes are located at the first floor level, and this design is repeated on the splayed return. A large square casement is on the left of the ground floor, with a central six-panel door and transom light, leading to three stone steps. To the right is a further door with transom light, also leading to three stone steps. A two-light display window is located on the splayed return, set within pilasters and featuring an entablature and curved heads to the lights. A similar arrangement is repeated on the Barton Street front, above a basement hatch and under blind lights at each level. A large 20th-century dormer sits above. A plinth, platband, and coped parapet run around all fronts, and ashlar stacks are present to the left and right. The interior has not been inspected.
