Description

11 and 11A Queen Street is a late 18th-century house that includes a shop. It is built from limestone ashlar and features a double Roman tile roof. The building has three storeys, an attic, and a basement, with three sash windows. There is a central two-light dormer in the mansard roof, and the second and first floors have twelve-pane windows set in architraves, complete with cornices and a central pediment on the first floor.

On the ground floor, there are 18th-century small-pane oriel shopfronts with four:twenty:four panes on each side of a part-glazed door framed by a reeded architrave. To the right, there is a later four:sixteen:four-pane oriel shop window with a door to the left. The pavement has grilles for basement lights. Architectural details include a deep platband above the ground floor, a continuous wood lintel above the first floor, a sill band on the second floor, and a modillion cornice with a blocking course. The right-hand end of the building is raised as a full attic, with a parapet and coped party divisions. There is also a parish boundary sign for St. M.P. cut into the masonry towards the right.

The interior has not been inspected. Historically, this building was once a grand town house, notable for its architectural detail compared to others in the street. Thomas Baldwin held the leases for this property and may have been involved in its development.
