Description

No. 7 Hatchett's Freehouse is a public house with a ground floor shop, dating from the mid to late 18th century. It is constructed of limestone ashlar and features a slate roof. The building has a shallow plan with a short return to Quiet Street and a steep mansard roof.

The exterior consists of three storeys, an attic, and a basement. It has twelve-pane sash windows in plain reveals. The long frontage includes two two-light casement dormers and three sash windows on the second and first floors, with the leftmost second-floor window being blind. The quadrant corner features a sash window at each level, set in a sunk panel with a curved cornice above the first-floor window. The short return has a blind light above the first-floor sash window.

On the ground floor, there is a continuous range of small-pane display windows with pilasters and a fascia with a cornice, which continues to the left under No. 11 Quiet Street. A basement hatch is located to the left. At the right end, there is a pair of panelled doors beneath a fanlight, set in deep arched reveals and flanked by nine-pane lights. This section of the property is beneath a single bay of No. 5 Queen Street. The plinth dies out to the left, and there is a modillion cornice with a blocking course, along with a large central stack and a slight break in the roofline.

Inside, the ground floor has been opened out, but original cornices remain in parts, and the original staircase is still in place.
