Description
This is a barn with attached shelter sheds located 30 meters west of Rodney Farmhouse, dated 1787. The structure is built from rubble with freestone dressings and features a roof made of stone slates, double Roman tiles, and corrugated iron. The barn is gabled and full height, with catslide porches at the west bay. The northern porch is raised and has a lower pitch roof of corrugated iron, with raised coped verges and saddlestones. The east gable has a large oculus with a moulded frame under a drip, above which is an owlhole and a datestone marked 1787. The upper levels of the west gable are similar, with a datestone marked WF/1787, but these details are obscured by a lean-to extension that has a roof of double Roman tiles and features a plain door and window to the north.
Adjoining the barn and running south is a long gabled range of shelter sheds, now also roofed with corrugated iron. The south gable end of the shelter sheds has a smaller framed oculus and a datestone marked WF/1794, supported by plain columns with cushion capitals. Inside, the barn has a three-bay roof with one tiebeam truss and one collared truss, along with heavy through purlins and raking braces. The porch reveals have good quoins with scratched graffiti, and there are dressed lamp niches in each porch. At the time of the survey, the shelter sheds and lean-to were observed to be moving downhill, and the barn was being used as a stable.
