Description
Orchard Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with alterations made around 1800 and in the 20th century. It is constructed of rubble with freestone dressings, featuring a slate mansard roof on the western part and a double Roman tiled roof on the eastern part, both with coped raised verges. There is a large rubble stack on the right gable end. The western range is a single storey with attics, which include 20th century four-light dormers. To the right, there are two 20th century casement windows, an off-centre door, and a two-light casement window in ovolo moulded surrounds to the left of the door. The eastern part has two storeys and attics, with two two-light casement windows in ovolo moulded surrounds. The east gable end features a 16-pane glazing bar sash window on the ground floor and a 12-pane sash window above. Inside, the house was formerly laid out in a cross-passage plan with two rooms on the east side. It has chamfered beams, and the first-floor east room boasts a fine ashlar fireplace with an ogee-step hollow moulded surround, elaborate stops, and a moulded overmantel. There is also a newel stair leading to the upper floor.
