Description
No. 18 Crescent Lane is a stable block that has been converted into a workshop. It dates from the late 18th century and has undergone alterations in the late 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed from limestone ashlar and features a slate roof that is hipped at the rear.
The structure has a rectangular plan, with two storeys facing the street and one storey at the rear. The front has a coped gable with kneelers, which is spanned by a late 19th-century timber lintel above a half-glazed central door. This door is flanked by paired small-paned windows, with match boarding below. The ground floor has similar infill from the 20th century. The right side of the building features 20th-century breezeblocks, while the rear right has a rubblestone wall with a blocked pointed arched opening.
The single-storey garden front has a coped parapet and cornice, with a pointed arched door flanked by blind pointed arched windows that have painted Gothic glazing bars. An elaborate screen wall depicts medieval arches with trompe l'oeil glazing bars. The screen walls of Nos. 13, 14, 17, and 19 are similarly detailed, while those of Nos. 6, 11, 12, 16, and 20 are simpler. The interior has not been inspected.
