CRESCENT LANE No.18 05/08/75

GV II

Stable block, now workshop. Late C18, with late C19 and C20 alterations. MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, slate roof, hipped to rear. PLAN: Rectangular plan. EXTERIOR: Two storeys to street front, one storey to rear. Coped forward facing gable with kneelers spanned by late C19 timber lintel to first floor over half glazed central door flanked by paired small paned windows with match boarding below. Ground floor has similar C20 infill. Right return of C20 breezeblocks. Rubblestone wall to rear right has blocked pointed arched opening. Single storey garden front has coped parapet and cornice and pointed arched door flanked by blind pointed arched windows with painted Gothic glazing bars. Elaborate screen wall depicting mediaeval arches with trompe l'oeil glazing bars. The screen walls of Nos 13,14,17 and 19 are similarly elaborate. Those of Nos 6,11,12,16 and 20 are plainer. INTERIOR: Not inspected.
