Description
Avondale House is an early 19th-century house located on Toll Bridge Road. It is built from limestone ashlar and features a double-pitched slate roof with moulded stacks at the gable ends, which are adorned with mid to late 19th-century ornamental chimney pots. The house has a double depth plan and stands two storeys high with a basement.
The front facade is symmetrical with three windows. It has a coped parapet with lions at the quoins and urns flanking a slightly stepped forward central bay. The first floor is fitted with eight-over-eight pane sash windows in raised surrounds. The ground floor features double two-panel doors beneath a margin paned overlight, flanked by French windows with margin panes. There is an original platband above a late 19th-century verandah that spans the ground floor. The right side of the house has a blocked segmental arch leading to the basement. The interior has not been inspected.
