Description

Bathampton Manor is a manor house, dating from the mid- to late 17th century, with significant remodelling occurring in the mid-18th century. It is now a private home for elderly persons. The building is constructed of coursed squared rubble, formerly rendered, and has a slate roof with coped raised verges and a parapet that is ramped up at the ends. A moulded cornice runs along the top of the building. The house has two storeys and attics, with modern dormers added later. It has seven bays. The windows are modern glazing bar sashes set within architraves, each with a flat moulded cornice above, arranged in a 1:1:3:1:1 grouping. A modern door is centrally positioned and flanked by half-Tuscan columns; further Ionic columns frame the window directly above the door. To the left of the entrance door is a blocked doorway featuring a depressed four-centred arch lintel and a moulded ovolo/ogee surround, all under a relieving arch. The house was formerly the home of the Allen family, including Ralph Allen of Bath.
