Description

Sharpstone Cottage is an early 19th-century house with a section of garden wall to the rear. The house is rendered, with a central strip of knapped flint, and has a hipped slate roof with overhanging, bracketed eaves. A central stack is built of ashlar. The architectural style is a picturesque blend of Italianate and Gothick elements, with two storeys and four bays, the outer two bays recessed. The windows are casements with one or two lights, featuring pointed heads and elaborate Gothick glazing. A pointed, panelled door is set within a moulded arch on the left side of the facade. A rubble garden wall stands to the rear of the house, approximately 15 feet high, and incorporates three vaulted chambers set into the hillside. Each chamber has a pointed arch plank door.
