Description
The Abbey Cemetery Partis Tomb is a Grade II* listed memorial dedicated to Ann Partis, who died in 1846. This neo-classical tomb features a two-stage design made of white marble with a Pennant stone base. Its structure resembles a Roman altar and is adorned with Soanian anthemion finials at the corners of the upper stage. The lower stage displays reliefs of crossed palms. A weathered marble inscription highlights her charitable contributions, stating that she used her wealth for the glory of God and the benefit of others. It notes that with her husband's full approval, she built and endowed Partis College in Weston, which provided support for thirty women who had fallen into hardship due to widowhood or orphanage. Ann Partis was a significant figure in Bath's philanthropic community and resided at 58 Pulteney Street.
