Description

This is a row of three early 19th-century houses located on the east side of Combe Down, originally known as Byfield Buildings on Combe Road. The houses are built of limestone ashlar with pantile roofs. Each house has two storeys and two windows. Number 1 features small sixteen-pane sashes and an original four-panel part-glazed door to the left. The rear of Number 1 has a new window above a sixteen-pane sash, and a projecting, shared gabled porch. Number 2 has replacement windows and a door to both the front and rear, along with a shared rear porch. Number 3 has four-pane sashes and a plank door to the left, with a further plank door set low on the right, leading to a through passage. The rear of Number 3 also includes four-pane sashes and a small oculus. The front of the buildings is distinguished by a moulded cornice with a blocking course and parapet. Gable ends and dividing walls are coped, and large stepped ashlar stacks are shared between Numbers 1 and 2, and to the right of Number 3. The interiors have not been inspected. The buildings back immediately onto Number 62, Combe Road.
