Description

The Abbey Cemetery Gapper Tomb is a Grade II listed structure dedicated to Captain Peter Gapper, who died in 1866. This tomb features a white marble obelisk adorned with martial trophies in relief, dating from around 1866. It includes an oval inscription panel on the upper stage and is set on a plinth made of pennant stone. Captain Gapper was the late Paymaster of the 64th Foot and was described as "a brave and gallant officer" known for his noble character, cultivated mind, benevolent generosity, and Christian charity. The tomb is located at the half border of section II of the cemetery.
