Public house. c1770, possibly with earlier core, remodelled 1926. MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, now painted, with Welsh slate roof. PLAN: Narrow double depth plan with rear extension. EXTERIOR: Three storeys with attic, one window, sash six/six with horns, coved cornice and parapet, mansard roof with one flat topped dormer, six/six sash. Modern pilastered public house front, tripartite window, six:fifteen:six, with door to right. INTERIOR: Bars in character with front, ie. much dark stained wood of Georgian' type. Interior otherwise not inspected. HISTORY: Green Street was laid out in 1716, and this building may incorporate an older structure. It has beenThe Old Green Tree' since the 1770s, and is thus one of the oldest public houses in Bath. The interior, which had previously been one room only in depth with a brewery behind, was remodelled by W.A. Williams in an atmospherically contextual manner (cf his work at this time to the Star PH in Vineyards, qv).
