Description

The Old Green Tree Public House is a public house located at 12 Green Street, dating from around 1770, though it may have an earlier core. The building was remodeled in 1926. It is constructed of limestone ashlar, which is now painted, and features a Welsh slate roof. The plan is a narrow double depth with a rear extension.

The exterior consists of three storeys with an attic, featuring one window that is a six-over-six sash with horns. There is a coved cornice and a parapet, along with a mansard roof that has one flat-topped dormer, which also contains a six-over-six sash window. The public house front is modern with pilasters and a tripartite window arrangement of six-over-fifteen-over-six, with a door located to the right.

Inside, the bars reflect the character of the front, showcasing much dark stained wood in a Georgian style. The interior was not fully inspected. Historically, Green Street was laid out in 1716, and this building has been known as The Old Green Tree since the 1770s, making it one of the oldest public houses in Bath. The interior was previously a single room in depth with a brewery behind and was remodeled by W.A. Williams in a manner that is contextually appropriate, similar to his work at the Star Public House in Vineyards.
