Description

This is a cast iron lamp post located opposite the path to the Canal Bridge, between 29 and 30 Sydney Buildings, on the south side. It dates from around 1830 and features a base inscribed with 'PARISH OF BATHWICK' and the founder's name 'STOTHERT' at the bottom. The shaft is decorated with palm leaves and has a waterleaf band at the foot, along with a scrolled ladder rest. The lantern above is a modern replacement. This lamp post is a distinctive Neoclassical design and was manufactured locally.
