Description

This early to mid-19th century house, originally a ticket office and house for the Kennet and Avon Canal, is situated on a sloping canal-side plot. The building is constructed of rough limestone ashlar, with a double Roman tile roof and a moulded stack to the central coped wall. It comprises two adjoining blocks, each two storeys high, with a single window facing the street.

The southernmost block, slightly elevated, was originally a house. It features rubblestone walls and contains a single, central, coloured leaded glass window on the first floor. The rear of this block is symmetrically arranged with two windows, plate glass sash windows with sliding louvred shutters flanking a 20th-century door. The door is sheltered by a hood supported on shaped stone brackets.

The northern block, to the right, has a plate glass sash window on the first floor to the left and a 20th-century door with a circular window to the left of it on the ground floor. The rear of this block has two 20th-century windows and a porch. The interior was noted to contain fittings and a raised gallery, though it has not been inspected.
