Description

Top Lock is a canal lock built around 1800 and restored in 1978. It was designed by the engineer John Rennie. The lock features a brick-lined basin with freestone curbs, along with restored gates, balance beams, and railings. The Kennet and Avon Canal, which this lock is part of, was authorized in 1794 and opened in 1810.
