Description

Nos. 27 and 28 on Monmouth Street are two former terrace houses dating from the late 18th century, possibly before 1776. They are constructed from limestone ashlar and feature three storeys and a basement. The façade has three widely spaced windows, all of which are six-over-six pane sashes. The first floor windows have moulded architraves, while the basements each contain paired replacement lights.

Between the first and second bays, there are two six-panel doors with architraves, which are sheltered by a shared flat hood supported by consoles. These doors are accessed by a flight of six steps with nosings and a shallow landing. To the far right, there is another door in a moulded architrave, also accessed by a similar flight of steps. The building has three string courses, including one at the basement level, as well as a moulded cornice with a blocking course and a parapet. There is a stack to the left and a large square stack situated between the second and third bays.

The interiors have not been inspected. In front of the property, there are simple railings on a stone curb that return to the doorways, providing access to the basement areas. The building is set back from the adjacent properties on either side.
