Description

Pitfour House is a house dating from the mid 17th century, which has been extended, altered, and refaced around 1800, with the front rebuilt around 1965. It is constructed of rubble reconstituted stone with freestone dressings and has slate roofs. The building is two storeys high and features five windows with sashes set in architraves and cill bands. The central entrance has a six-panel door beneath a plain round head light, which interrupts a doorcase pediment supported by Tuscan columns. The house has a fine dentilled cornice and a plain parapet.

On the right side, there is a three-light window with edge-moulded mullions, a door beneath a hood on brackets, and a first-floor sash window. The complex rear elevation displays two gables and a hipped block on the left, all two storeys high. This elevation includes three windows, with the right gable featuring a two-light ovolo-moulded mullion casement, and the central gable showcasing a round arch stair window with plain architrave springers and a keystone. The block to the left has three-light edge-moulded mullion casements. The west return also has two storeys with two windows, including two-light ovolo-moulded mullion casements. Inside, there is a large open well staircase with stick balusters and a wreath.
