Description
The piers, gates, railings, and plinths at the western entrance to Hedgemead Park were built around 1900. They are located between Valley View House and Hartley House. The materials used include limestone ashlar and wrought iron.
The piers, which are attached to the adjacent houses, feature dentil cornices and lintel friezes beneath prominent ogee pyramidal caps topped with flat square pinnacles. Bull-nosed plinths support railings that have turned finials. The open square railed gatepiers have scrolled tops and urn finials, while the double gates are adorned with scrolls on the horizontal upper and central bands, as well as scrolled central vertical panels.
Hedgemead Park was opened around 1900 following landslips in the area.
