Description

The structure consists of walls, four pairs of gate piers and gates, a fountain, and two flights of steps, surrounding the garden to the south of Combe Grove Hotel. It was probably built in the mid-19th century.

The walls are made of ashlar and are approximately four feet high, featuring a plain and arcaded parapet, moulded coping, and panelled and plain pedestals at intervals. The wall runs along the front of the south elevation of Combe Grove Hotel and steps up at the east end to a pair of tall, rusticated gate piers that mark the entrance to the drive. A small section of wall continues from the north-east pier.

There is a central flight of 14 steps with an arcaded balustrade that leads up to the south door of the house, with two small pairs of gate piers located at the west and east ends of the house. At the west end of the garden, the wall curves around and continues for approximately 100 yards along the south side of the garden. A central flight of steps leads down to a lower garden, and at the top of these steps is a fountain featuring triple scalloped bowls and an irregular hexagonal base, surrounded by two low quadrant walls.
