Description
The boundary walls, piers, and gate to Clyde House date from the late 18th century and have been altered in the 20th century. The materials used include squared and coursed rubble with ashlar dressings and a cast iron gate. The wall is approximately 2.75 meters high and runs the full width of the site at the rear pavement edge, featuring a plain weathered coping. To the right, there are ashlar piers and a gate surround. The simple gate has a plain lintel inscribed with 'CLYDE HOUSE' in sans-serif lettering. The right pair of piers stands at 3 meters high and has a moulded cornice and pyramidal cappings, with an opening that is approximately 2.2 meters wide, followed by 3 meters of walling that ends with quoins. At the left end, the wall returns in rubble along the site boundary and again returns to the front of the house, featuring an arch in ashlar dressings. This wall is significant in its environment, especially as much has been removed in the 20th century.
