Description
Rose Cottage is a detached villa built in the early to mid 19th century. It is constructed from limestone ashlar and features slate roofs. The main structure is L-shaped, with a pavilion set back to the right that encloses a small courtyard at the rear.
The exterior is two storeys high and the front range has three windows, all of which are three-light sashes with cast iron small-scale diamond panes. These windows have mullions set in raised surrounds with narrow sunk panels around them. The ground floor has a single light window in the centre, similarly detailed. There is a broad plat band that returns at both ends, and the roof has a deep flat soffit with stone ridges and hips.
On the left side, there are single and double casement windows that match the front, as well as a two-light window with rectangular glazing. The front part of the building has a hipped roof. To the right, the hipped roof returns over three-light casements, while a link unit features a single casement above a panelled door, which is topped with a flat slab hood supported by shaped brackets. This link has a straight parapet connecting to the hipped rear range, which has three-light casements with small square panes that match the main block. There is a slight plinth that is almost concealed by later concrete slab pavings. At the rear, the hipped range also has a west section with a parapet leading to a later flat roof. The interior has not been inspected.
