Description
The entrance lodges to Cuckfield Hospital are a pair of buildings originally constructed as lodges for the workhouse in 1843 by H W Parker, who was an Assistant Poor Law Commissioner. They are designed in a classical style and built from red brick featuring grey headers arranged in a chequer work pattern, topped with slate roofs. The lodges are single-storey structures with end pedimented gables that have brick modillion cornices. They feature tripartite sash windows, each with 20 panes and gauged brick heads. The right-hand lodge has been extended in the 20th century by adding one bay with a lean-to brick and glazed extension. These lodges are included for their group value.
