Description
Braynesmead Cottages comprise three dwellings, originally a single house. Two builds are present: Nos 1 and 3 have an open hall of three bays dating from around 1480, while No 3 was built in the 17th century. The structure is timber-framed and has been refronted with red brick on the ground floor, which is now painted, with the first floor weather-boarded. The roof is tiled with gables on the left-hand side. The cottages have two storeys and feature six-over-four casement windows. The entrances are via plank doors. A brick stack is positioned off-centre on the ridge between Nos 1 and 2, with an end stack for No 3. Within No 2 is an 18th-century bressummer to the fireplace, along with a bread oven. The roof was inaccessible during the time of survey, but it is reported to have soot-encrusted rafters.
