Description
No 126 High Street is a 15th-century Wealden hall-house with four bays that features a jettied front. The house has been restored and includes a north wing added in the early 20th century. It is timber-framed, with the ground floor now built in red brick and the first floor hung with alternating bands of plain and curved tiles. The roof is hipped and tiled, with a gablet and a tall 19th-century clustered brick chimney stack on the ridge. Large curved wooden brackets support the eaves of the recessed center and the first floor. There are three 19th-century casement windows with diamond-paned lights, along with a two-storey early 20th-century bay window featuring wooden mullions that replaces the former open hall. The rear elevation includes an early 20th-century triangular dormer with a curved window and an early 20th-century doorcase with a wooden porch. The early 20th-century north wing has a red brick ground floor and a tile-hung first floor.
