Description
Lindfield House is a Grade II* listed house dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed of red brick and features a stone cornice and doorcase, topped with a slate roof that has end chimney stacks. The building consists of two parallel ranges with an L-shaped service wing to the northwest. It stands two storeys high and has five windows, which are 12-pane sashes with thick glazing bars and rubbed brick arches. The exterior includes a deep panelled parapet, moulded stone coping, a brick plat band, and a central doorcase with a broken pediment that contains a bust of Shakespeare, flanked by rusticated pilasters and an eight-panelled door, two of which are glazed.
Inside, the house features a central staircase with a straight flight, turned balusters, and a column-shaped newel post, along with dado panelling. The study includes early 18th-century panelling, a wide modillion cornice, and a six-panelled door set in a doorcase with curved architraves. There is also a similarly panelled dining room.
