Description

Lindfield Place is a house that dates from the mid-18th century and was remodeled in the 19th century, with an early 20th-century extension to the north that is not of special interest. The east elevation features brown brick with red brick dressings set on a sandstone base, while the north elevation is tile hung with alternating pointed and curved courses. The building has a tiled roof with brick chimney stacks and stands two storeys tall with attics, comprising five windows. It has a wooden modillion eaves cornice and red brick quoins, along with window dressings and a band between the floors. The hipped roof includes two flat-topped dormers with sash windows and a central brick chimney stack.

A central canted feature on the ground floor rises two storeys and has a pediment with three lights. This feature contains a fine doorcase with an open pediment that includes a keystone, ogee moulding, fluted pilasters, an elongated rectangular pediment with decorative glazing, and a six-fielded panelled door. The windows are 12-pane sashes with moulded architraves, cambered heads, and thick glazing bars. The south elevation has five windows, including a central pedimented three-light cusped oriel supported by wooden brackets.

Inside, the kitchen features a chamfered spine beam and joists with run-out stops, along with a wooden 18th-century spit rack above the fireplace, which has three positions and is a rare survival. There is a straight flight staircase with slender turned balusters. The drawing room contains a mid-19th-century style wooden fireplace and dado panelling with deep fielded panels, likely original, as well as some early 18th-century two-panelled doors.
