Description
Beam Ends is a Grade II listed building located on South Street in Cuckfield. Originally a single house from the 16th century, it has been altered in the 20th century and is now subdivided. The building features a timber-framed structure with square panels exposed on the first floor, which has painted brick infill. The ground floor is underbuilt in brick, with the left side tile hung and a tiled roof. It has two storeys and attics, with three windows displaying irregular fenestration. The steeply pitched roof has a gablet on the left and is half-hipped on the right, featuring a large clustered chimney stack off-centre on the ridge and another on the end. There are three gabled dormers with leaded lights. The first floor has three 19th-century casements with leaded lights, while the ground floor includes two 20th-century metal casements and one 16-pane sash window with horns. A simple modern planked door leads into the building. At the rear, there is a modern lean-to brick addition. The interior of No 28 includes an inglenook fireplace with a beehive-shaped bread oven, a jowled post, and a winder staircase leading to the attic, which features wide floorboards and a through purlin roof.
