Description

Tanyard Farmhouse is a house that was formerly a farmhouse, built in three phases. The northern range likely dates to the 16th century, while the main southern part is dated 1671, featuring the initials B W M on the external chimneystack. The eastern range may serve as a 17th-century service wing. The 1671 section is timber-framed with brick infill on the rear elevation, painted brick on the ground floor, and tile hanging on the first floor of the front elevation. It has a tiled roof and a large external stack on the right side. The building has two storeys and attics, with two windows, including one hipped dormer and 20th-century casement windows. The doorcase has a flat hood. The rear elevation includes a gabled stair turret, a pedimented doorcase, two casements, and a blocked original mullioned window. The northern range is timber-framed with an exposed box frame featuring a midrail and diagonal braces on the first floor, red brick infill, and a painted brick ground floor. It has a steeply pitched half-hipped tiled roof with a tall channelled brick chimneystack and casement windows. The eastern wing has a ground floor of red brick with some black brick headers and a weatherboarded first floor. Its steeply pitched roof is mainly covered with Horsham stone slabs, except for a tiled lean-to. The first floor features some early 19th-century metal-framed casements with pintle hinges.
