Description
No. 23 West Street is a Grade II listed building from the 18th century, featuring three storeys and a basement with three windows. It is constructed of red brick and has a panelled parapet topped with rendered capping. The building includes a notable rainwater head. The brickwork in the easternmost window bay on the ground floor has been renewed. The sash windows are set in shallow reveals beneath flat arches, with intact glazing bars. Rubbed brick voussoirs with keystones are present in the centre of the arches. The central doorway is flanked by Doric columns and features a moulded frieze and pediment. The door itself is set in panelled reveals and has six moulded panels, with the top two cut away and glazed. This building is part of a group that includes the Church of St Peter, Nos 21 to 25 (consecutive), The John Edes House, and Nos 27 to 33 (consecutive).
