Description
No 24 on West Street is an 18th-century building that stands three storeys tall and features three windows. It has a slate gabled roof, which is reinforced by asbestos. The exterior is made of grey headers with red brick dressings, and there are panels linking the windows along with red brick quoins. A small cornice with modillions is located under the eaves. The sash windows are set in reveals with slightly segmental arches and have rubbed brick voussoirs, with window blinds on the first-floor windows. All glazing bars are intact. The round-headed doorway is framed by Doric columns and a pediment, leading to a door with six panels set in panelled reveals. Above the door is a semi-circular fanlight with elaborate curvilinear tracery. At the eastern end, there is another doorway with a moulded frame and cornice over, leading to a six-panel moulded door in reveals. This building is part of a group that includes the Church of St Peter, Nos 21 to 25, The John Edes House, and Nos 27 to 33.
