Description
Montreal, located at No 21 on the south side of Westgate, is a building from the 18th century that features two storeys and an attic. It has a higher frontage compared to No 19 and is topped with an old tiled gabled roof that has a stack at each end. The building includes one flat-roofed dormer with a sash window that retains its glazing bars. Notable architectural details include a modillion eaves cornice on the north front, red brick construction, and a band between the ground and first floors.
The front facade has three windows; the first-floor windows are sash with flush boxes and flat arches, while the ground floor features segmental arches and later 19th-century sash windows. The glazing bars are intact on the first floor but missing below. There is a door accessed by three steps with an iron handrail, which is a six-panel door with the top two panels cut away and glazed, set within panelled reveals. The doorway has a flat arch and is framed by a doorcase with Doric pilasters and an entablature. The entrance door is located on the east side, positioned between Nos 19 and 21, with a one-storey east-west wing adjoining the southeast end of No 21.
Nos 11 to 25 (odd numbers) form a group with this building.
