Description
A row of 17th-century terraced cottages, located on Maltravers Street. The cottages are constructed of red brick with grey brick headers in a Flemish bond pattern, and have pitched tile roofs and red brick chimneys. The two-storey building has a brick stringcourse positioned above the first four ground-floor windows. There are six casement windows on the ground floor, with the easternmost window being segment-headed, the third from the west being a two-light design, and the others three-light. The first floor has seven casement windows with glazing bars; all are three-light except for the third and fourth from the west, which are two-light. There are four doors; the eastern door (number 25) is from the mid-19th century, featuring six panels, a moulded surround, a flat hood supported by consoles, and an elaborate knocker. The next door (number 27) is also from the mid-19th century, with six panels and a flat hood on slender iron brackets. Number 27 has a single panel and a scalloped-and-laurel knocker. The western door (number 29) is from the mid-19th century, with six fielded panels, a flat hood on consoles, and a highly elaborate knocker styled as a Perpendicular Gothic aedicule. The cottages form a group with numbers 3 to 31 (odd) and the Little House, and with numbers 1, 2 and 6 Baker's Arms Hill.
