Description

These are a row of six houses, numbers 39 to 44, built in the 1860s. They were constructed by Robert Bushby, a local builder. The facades are finished with a cement render and the houses extend over three storeys, with an attic and a basement. Each house has one or three sash windows, some arranged as reflected pairs, while others are set within three-window canted bays. The first floor windows are round-headed. The ground floor features horizontal channelling, and bands divide the building floor by floor, with brackets supporting the first floor band. A decorative bedmould runs along the cornice, also with brackets, and is topped by a blocking course. The roofs are mansard style with dormers; numbers 41 to 44 have dormers with segmental pediments, while the others have round-headed dormers, although number 40 has been altered. Steps lead to the entrances, which each have a rectangular fanlight above the door. Numbers 30 to 47 form a group.
