Description

UPPER BOGNOR ROAD 1. 5401 (North Side) No 53 (Mordington) SZ 9499 18/17 22.4.71. IT GV 2. This is a somewhat similar house to St Michaels but not a pair with it. Early C19. 3 storeys and basement. 8 windows. Stuccoed stone colour. Eaves cornice. 2 bays of 3 windows each on all floors with hipped slate roofs. All glazing bars missing. The house itself is rather dull but is worth including for its portico at the head of 5 steps. This has 4 Doric columns, triglyph frieze, and pediment over the centre. The door has 6 moulded panels (top 4 glazed) and a semi-circular fanlight over it and is flanked by 2 similar doorways, with semi-circular fanlights over. The east front has a small verandah up 5 steps, with dentilled cornice, a pediment over the centre and similar triple door to that in the front portico but without the fanlights, glazed in, one light engraved with Grecian ornament. The vestibule has 2 Corinthian columns axial to centre of middle door and a pair of very shallow eliptical arches across the rear. Nos 41 to 57 (odd), No 55A, Nos 65 to 71 (odd) and all the walls form a group.
