Description

Nos 23 and 24 Castle Street date from the late 18th century to the early to mid 19th century. They are a three-storey building with a cellar, constructed of red brick on a projecting plinth, with a slate roof. Each property has one window on each floor, with four panes in the ground floor windows, and a front door. No. 23 features a five-panel door, while No. 24 has a six-panel door; both are set within surrounds of panelled reveals, pilasters, cut console brackets, and a cornice that breaks forward over the brackets. A central arched passage provides entry. Nos 23 and 24, together with Nos 1 to 9 Lowndes Buildings on the west side of Castle Street, form a group of buildings of group value.
