Description

Lordshill Cottage is a cottage dating back to the early 17th century, with extensions added in the 18th century and the 20th century, utilising reclaimed materials, and a further 20th-century addition to the rear right. The right-hand section has a timber frame on a sandstone plinth, with red brick infill below a whitewashed upper section. The centre is brown brick, the left-hand side a combination of brown and blue brick, with tile hanging above, all beneath plain tiled roofs. The building follows an L-shape. The right-hand section is a single storey with an attic. The centre and left-hand sections are two storeys, with a jettied first floor on the left wing. There are end stacks on both the left and right sides, and two hipped roof dormers with diamond-paned windows to the right. The ground floor features three leaded casement windows, a pentice-roofed angle bay to the ground floor right of centre (possibly replacing a former doorway), and a 6-panel door under a pentice hood on brackets. The left wing has two diamond-pane leaded first-floor windows, and two ground-floor windows including one angle bay. A parallel brick and tile-hung range extends to the rear.
