Description

This is a row of cottages, dating from the 17th century, with alterations and extensions in the 18th and 19th centuries. A late 19th-century brick and tile-hung cottage called Easteds, attached to the northeastern end of Little Easteds, is not considered to be of special architectural or historic interest. The main structure is timber-framed to the centre and right, with brown brick cladding and brick extensions to the left end. It has plain tiled roofs, with a hipped roof over the range to the left and a 17th-century ridge stack to the left of centre on the main range. A ridge stack is also present on the cross wing.

The building is two storeys high with a plat band over the ground floor and a wooden modillion eaves cornice on the right side. There are four casement windows to the first floor, two with leaded lights, and four windows to the ground floor, each with gauged brick heads. Two 20-pane glazing bar sash windows are positioned on each floor of the projecting end bay of the cross wing. A hip-roofed brick porch shelters the door at the junction of the wing and the main house; a part-glazed door is located to the right of centre within a gabled porch. A 20th-century hipped roof extension, set back, is present to the left.

The building is significant as a 17th or earlier timber-framed structure that was refronted and extended in the 18th and early 19th centuries, retaining a substantial amount of original fabric. It contributes to the group of listed buildings surrounding Shamley Green, which is a designated Conservation Area.
