Description

Ellis Forbes and Son is a house that has been converted into a shop, dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century, with some alterations. The building is constructed of brick, with the front stuccoed and tile-hung. It features a plain tile roof and stands two storeys high with an attic, comprising one bay and a lower two-storey parallel rear range. The front has a 20th-century half-glazed door to the right of a 20th-century two-light window, with an older segmental-arched two-light casement window above, all featuring small-paned glazing. The eaves are stepped, and there is a ridge stack on the left that is shared with the adjacent No 25. The rear of the building is partly tile-hung, and the rear range has a separate roof with a stack at the right end and another near the centre. There are late 20th-century single-storey extensions that are not of special interest. Inside, No 27 was built next to No 29 and shares a timber-framed side wall with it on the ground floor. The first floor and attic have old board doors. The building is included for its group value.
