Description

Furnace Place is a country house, built around 1900 in a Jacobethan style. It has since been divided into separate dwellings. The house is constructed of diaper patterned brick with stone dressings; it has plain tile roofs and substantial brick stacks. The building has an asymmetrical L-shaped plan, with two storeys and an attic containing dormers with gabled ends. Most windows are leaded casements, some featuring stone mullions. The court facade has a prominent oriel window to the left and a central porch with fluted Doric pilasters and an entablature. The garden front is seven bays wide, with alternating projecting angle bays and recessed gable bays, all featuring stone-dressed windows.
