Description
Mercer's Cottage, formerly known as Timbers, is a house dating from the 16th century, which was altered in the 18th century. The building features a timber frame that is clad in brick at the front, resting on a rendered brick plinth, with brick infill to the exposed frame on the left-hand return front. It has a plain tiled hipped roof with gablets. The cottage is two storeys high and has an inserted corbelled stack to the left of the centre. On the first floor, there are four leaded wood-framed windows, while the ground floor has three windows. A ribbed door is located to the left of centre, leading to a lobby entry. The left-hand return front displays jowled corner posts. At the rear, there is an outshot with a small gable to the right. Inside, the frame is visible, showcasing good ceiling joists and a deep fireplace.
