Description

Hollyhocks is a house dating back to the 16th century, with extensions added in the 19th century. The house is timber-framed and has red brick cladding on the lower part, while the upper part is covered in tiles, some arranged in diamond point patterns and others in a ‘club’ pattern. A left-hand extension is constructed of red and blue brick on the ground floor, with tile hanging above. The roof is tiled, hipped on the right side and with a gablet.

The house has a T-shaped plan, with a gabled cross wing to the left. It is two storeys and has an attic in the gabled wing, while the other section is one storey and has an attic within a gabled dormer with a ridge cresting. A multiple corbelled stack is located to the left of centre, at the junction of the wings, with further stacks to the rear. A single first-floor window with diamond-paned glass is on the right, and large diamond-paned casement windows are on each floor of the left-hand gable. There are two windows on the ground floor to the right. A plank door is set to the left of centre, within margin lights, and is sheltered by a hipped porch on posts. The return front to the left features two gabled dormers with ridge crests. Square extensions with pyramidal roofs are located to the right.
